Hegseth today: "This was never meant to be a fair fight. And it is not a fair fight. We are punching them while they're down, which is exactly how it should be."
I came across your account with the outrage titling you gave to to this post. I scrolled back to see what you wrote about Oct 7th when Hamas attacked innocent people… crickets? I call that hypocrisy..
And what did you write during all those years Israel was slaughtering Palestinians in Gaza, while holding them in an open-air prison? Crickets, is my guess. The Gazans who broke out on October 7th were the Warsaw Ghetto fighters of our time. And you can figure out who the Israelis (especially those in the military bases which functioned to imprison Gazans, and the "settlements" which were specifically built to contain Gaza) are in this analogy. Get past your narcissistic perpetual victimhood, and face the reality of the Zionist goal of a Palestine without Palestinians.
Funny that of the 55 majority Muslim nations, NONE of them offered assistance or refuge to the Palestinians. Makes one think that they consider their own brethren expendable.
Those years where that wasn’t real and didn’t happen, sandfaggot? You Arab sockpuppet accounts couldn’t be more fucking obvious (and obviously retarded)
What wasn't real and didn't happen? The siege of Gaza? "Operation Cast Lead?" The "putting the Palestinians on a diet" (ie limiting the entry of food to a minimum?) The periodic "mowing the lawn," sadistic Hasbara-speak for killing Palestinians? The deliberate maiming and killing by trained snipers of non-violent protesters in the Great March of Return? Bombing little kids playing soccer on the beach? None of that happened? Go fuck yourself.
You sucked that number out of your ass, as you did this supposed "admission." The vast majority of Palestinians killed by Israel were civilians, including hundreds of children. Just like in all the Israeli assaults on Palestinians. Norman Finkelstein documents this, thoroughly and extensively, in all his books. Read this one, and stop spreading Zionist lies in support of genocide. https://www.ucpress.edu/books/gaza/hardcover
Tunnel vision. Barack Obama released a barage of munitions toward the end of his Presidency. The US government had children stacked one on top of another in cages while they awaited deportation during his term as well. All this moral outrage about Iran but none for the 30,000 people recently slaughtered by that regime. There was acceptance and applause when Hillary Clinton said if she was President and Iran would not come to heel she would "obliterate" them. But of course, Hillary is a Democrat so no matter how egregious, barbaric or illegal.....the Party loyalist’s nod their approval. Almost ALL of the recent moves by this Administration have roads that push back on China. Shutting down the flow of fentanyl moving from China and into the US through Canada and the US. Venezuela: Maduro was an illegitimate "leader" and brutalized his people, yes, but Venezuela supplied oil to China. Democrats have long postured about Iran, including Barack Obama, but when push came to shove they groveled and instead of stepping up to stop brutality, paid 400M to the regime after they butchered our soldiers on live television. But.....Iran supplies 80-90% of the oil to China. Trump didn't want to purchase Greenland for egotistical reasons - unlike the morons who said as much in the mainstream media. China was making moves to control mining on the island AND Greenland provides a defensive position for the US and Europe. Trump's message was to China: BACK OFF. War is horrifying. The majority of people do not want it, like it or approve of it, but to shed tears for children now while ignoring the brutality of the men who view children as props for sacrifice or view women/girls as livestock is disengenuous at best. President Xi is likely sitting back and reconsidering making a move against Taiwan. Trump has not just crippled Iran but the recent maneuvers on the chess board in Greenland, Canada, Mexico, Venezuela and Iran deal a blow to China and send a clear message: stay in your lane. I am not so naive to think that being "nice" is all it takes to keep people safe. It is not the job of a government to be "nice" but it is the job of a government to protect its people. When a predator is carefully encroaching it is not a good idea to ignore it or appease it. It is folly to believe the US is immune from attack by an enemy like China. Someone had to stop their creep. Thus far, like him or not, Trump has been strategic and has made every effort to limit casualties. The ball is in Iran's court. If they want this to stop they need to come to heel and Democrats should applaud.
Matt, they have literally been murdering innocent's in the West for decades via terrorists (not to mention the thousands upon thousands of Iranians that have been executed for political purposes). You can criticize a lot about this war, but to argue that it's not morally justified is spitting in the face of the millions of this regime's victims.
NO, Matthew, this war crime is NOT morally justified. The last time the US engaged in "regime change" in Iran, it was to overthrow a moderate parliamentary democracy (which had the temerity to nationalize the country's oil) and to install the torture regime of the Shah. That alone evaporates any claim the US might have as an honest actor here. Then, just look at the results of US wars in Iraq, Libya, Syria, all of which left behind piles of corpses and failed states. Of course, the elephant in the room is the US/Israeli genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, and the clear campaign to ethnically cleanse the West Bank, all while Israel is invading both Syria and Lebanon. No, Matthew, the US and Israel come into this drenched in the blood of hundreds of thousands. Iran/Persia hasn't attacked another country in hundreds of years. The US and Israel can't go twenty minutes without doing so.
No, they just funnel billions to people that they know will deliberately target civilians.
Again, not saying it was a wise decision, (only time will tell if it was), but this was truly one of the most evil men on the planet.
I wouldn't defend the Shah, and I'm not saying their installation was justified. In fact, I think you could argue the US had a moral obligation to get rid of the Ayatollah given that we unwisely started that set of dominos.
But as bad as the last Shah was (estimates put somewhere near 300 political executions by the SAVAK during the last shah's reign), it pales in comparison to this regime. To give you a flavor of this man:
Do you not realize you're not talking about Khamenei, whom the US and/or Israel just murdered?
As to funneling billions: it's the US doing that, buddy. Billions to Israel. Billions for "Operation Timber Sycamore" to destroy Syria. How much to destroy Libya? How much spent over the decades in Afghanistan? How many Billions fomenting the coup in Ukraine and the subsequent war? Stop turning the victims into the criminals. Look at the actions of the United States and Israel, and the resulting death toll. "We" are not the good guys.
His mind is like a steel trap, Jim. Like so many, too many other Americans, he is not someone who can be educated or persuaded with facts, logic and reason. As they say, you can’t fix stupid.
I know how sad, how frustrating it is to understand how much we have lost as a society, as a nation. Our fathers and grandfathers fought fascism and preserved our freedoms at great cost, but today we are ruled by a cabal of barbarous criminals and thieving conmen, an unholy mob of grifters and genocidal pedophiles who feast on children.
There is this, though: It cannot last. Decency, honesty, compassion and truth are universal values, and the universe does not smile upon those who rape and murder children. We have it on good authority that it would be better for them if a millstone were hanged about their neck and they were cast into the sea.
Well, aren't you precious, peddling the propaganda? Such selective outrage!
There is every reason to believe that the IRGC either accidentally or on purpose blew up the girls school. Why should they care about a bunch of girls?
They didn't care about the protesters they murdered. And women are not regarded as worth very much anyway, in this Sharia culture. Their own fathers and brothers kill them for the crime of dishonoring the family.
BUT THEY SURE DO KNOW that the west is sympathetic to girls, and to children in general. They KNEW that "the story that Israel did it, or the US did it" would make your bleeding heart bleed. And just like the gullible progressive that you are, it worked like a charm on you.
The Mullah who mowed down tens of thousands of his own people just a few weeks ago is suddenly and disgustingly the sympathetic star of your narrative.
There were daughters and granddaughters in those crowds, too. Did the IRGC give them a fighting chance? Or did they trap them at their most defenseless and steal their lives?
But THOSE deaths don't align with your narrative. So they're not worth your consideration.
Maybe Khameini could have been intelligent enough to place his family far away from the action (or not, or maybe he didn't care. They're ALL martyrs now!)
Your entire take is disgusting. God forbid your own granddaughters grow up wearing burqas and getting beaten by strange men for wearing them incorrectly, or get acid thrown into their face when they choose to not wear it at all, or get murdered by a family member for refusing a marriage offer. Or get hung to death for accusing their rapist.
Islam treats women like cattle, dogs like rats, and music like a sin.
And if you're gay, forget it. You don't get to live.
Is that the society you want? Is that the life you want for your progeny?
Selective outrage, Benj. At the end of the day these things are never really caring, but are about hatred for Trump. Child sex trafficking in the US rose when the borders were opened. Those screaming for the borders to remain open put on their goggles and ignore that reality while claiming it is unkind to call illegal entrants "illegal". It's a special form of insanity and the ultimate in hypocrisy. Hans Christian Anderson wrote "The Emperor's New Clothes" to illustrate how governments can get people to celebrate the most insane things. Is there hope for a person or group of who actually believes that a man can become a woman and that eliminating safe spaces for these men is not somehow the destruction of actual women's rights?
There's something you're missing. We are responsible for what's done in our name. That aside, what comes after the killing and maiming? The end of Islam? A compliant trading partner and new market for our tycoons? A vibrant democracy?
Fair enough - but then, not. I can't do a damned thing about what was done in 1953, or 1979, or three days ago. Nobody asked me, and I don't have the agency to change any minds. Who does?
All the same - I am actually glad to see the authoritarians get kicked in the teeth. After they mowed down the protesters? You bet I am.
I don't know what comes after. Hopefully smooth transition to something better. Throw off the chains of authoritarian theocracy.
Hegseth : Never before have I seen a public figure display his/her depravity so proudly. How doth the world at large feel about this utter lack of any morals, a pure pursuit of self interest at the expense of everyone else, this naked reach for evil world domination? The Trumpists even share that barbaric war-worshiping religious cultism with the Nazis, referring often to Christianity but never to the teachings of Christ.
Hello psycho. Communist Russia killed vast numbers more than the Holocaust; millions alone from starvation due the the progressive farming methods of Lysenko.
I'm not a "Trumpist" and I see the chessboard. Do you need China to announce it's arrival with another Pearl Harbor "surprise" or another 911 to understand the concept of peace through strength? If a dingo is stalking an emu and the emu sticks its head in the sand the dingo doesn't retreat but moves more quickly forward. If the emu turns and confronts the dingo the dingo will back off because it is not in the best interest of a predator to risk injury by a capable opponent. China is the dingo. Democrats keep sticking their head in the sand. Trump turned the emu around and said, "I see you." Honestly, the absolute intellectual, moral and emotional illiteracy of the left is exhausting - which is why I walked away. The Party I knew and embraced in the 80's and 90's would not have allowed "feelings" driven policies as a wishy-washy platform. Hillary Clinton would have "obliterated" Iran (her word) if they did not stop their nuclear dreams. Clinton would have secured Greenland. Unfortunately, Bill was part of the cabal that established the drug trafficking networks from South America and Mexico so she would have been SOL there, but she would have known the danger it posed. Venezuela? How many Democrats wrung their hands, clucked their tongues and sternly said, "Maduro needs to go!"? Is HRC part of a "barbaric, war-worshiping, cult of Nazi's that refers to Christianity but never to the teachings of Christ?" If your answer is not, "Yes", Patrick, you're a hypocrite.
Powerful piece, thanks. It is also worth noting that starting this war was illegal. In addition to violating international law, the war (and it is certainly a war, though news outlets are already starting to whitewash that fact with government-supplied euphemisms) violates the 1973 War Powers Act (50 U.S.C. §§ 1541–1548, Chapter 33 of Title 50) which states that the president can introduce forces into hostilities only under three conditions: (1) a congressional declaration of war, (2) specific statutory authorization like an AUMF, or (3) a national emergency from an attack on the U.S., its territories, or armed forces. Here is a link to the statute: https://tile.loc.gov/storage-services/service/ll/uscode/uscode1982-01905/uscode1982-019050033/uscode1982-019050033.pdf)
Notification starts the 60-day timer, sure, but WPR Section 2(c) bars action without the three conditions first. Yes, presidents from both parties have violated this again and again with Congress doing nothing (as yesterday), making enforcement tough. That doesn’t make these actions legal—just continually allowed.
All war is illegal so is rape and murder and illegally invading countries, theft and so many things,,,drugs sent to a country to kill their people Fentynal on and on it goes,,do something Peter
Trump should have declined Nutty's offer to join in and told him, “Thanks, but we'll pass on this opportunity and any others in the future. The best thing for the planet is that you and Iran settle your differences with a fair fight, and may the best man win. Bonne chance!”
I can't recall who offered the analogy that America is like a guy who has a friend with anger management issues, among other problems, who is constantly stirring up problems, getting into fights, and then calling him for help.
This describes the situation since the 1973 Yom Kippur War which Israel was losing until the USA saved its bacon.
People, and governments, should follow treaties, rules, and laws. Including when The Other does not follow rules and laws. Rogue actions by powerful actors do not enhance peace and stability.
Wow, talk to about a one-sided hit piece. If I read your article without any historical information, I would be crying for Khamenei and all the Iranians. No mention of how the regime just slaughtered, tortured, and imprisoned 10's of thousands of protesters. No mention of thousands of innocent people in other countries who died from Iran-supported terrorism. No mention of decades of failed negotiations with Iran. You have an exe to grind and simply lack any balance.
query to Google AI: did the US use depleted uranium ammunition in Iraq?
answer: Yes, the US military used depleted uranium (DU) ammunition extensively in Iraq during two major conflicts: the 1991 Gulf War and the 2003 Iraq War
query: health effect of depleted uranium used in Iraq by US
answer: Local medical reports from cities like Fallujah and Basra have documented "extraordinary" surges in health crises since 2003:
Congenital Birth Defects: Reports from Fallujah noted a 17-fold increase in defects such as heart malformations and nervous system disorders. Some studies found that children with defects had significantly higher levels of toxic metals in their bodies.
Cancer & Leukemia: Incidence rates for various cancers have reportedly doubled or tripled in some regions, with childhood leukemia being a major concern.
Sadly crimes of this manner have been widely accepted by the world community over the past years in Gaza. It seems we will see more of this as whatever pretense of morality we used to pretend guided our decisions is stripped away. It arguably never existed but they don’t even feel the need to lie or cover it up anymore
We did not Pearl Harbor anybody, you nitwit. Iran has been told clearly that they cannot have a nuke. They kept trying. We bombed their centrifuges. They kept going. They target civilians and have killed countless numbers.
I am thrilled with the low level of collateral damage involved in liberating these people. I fully expect that when the real war starts in Iran (Persians against Iranians), the toll will be much worse. But american hands are fairly clean.

It is difficult for us to comprehend how a culture that is so different from our own makes decisions.
Yes it is difficult why people of one religion would reject people of the same religion who desperately require assistance or refuge.
What a load of horseshit

Your definition of "good guys" would encompass the Nazis. Clearly, you view the peoples in the Middle East/West Asia as untermenschen.
Lol, nah. But I'm not crying over dead islamists. I hope the Iranian people take back their country.
The real question is, why are you crying over dead jihadis?
Nothing that the other side did justifies what we have done because nothing ever could.
Thanks for that report.

People, and governments, should follow treaties, rules, and laws. Including when The Other does not follow rules and laws. Rogue actions by powerful actors do not enhance peace and stability.
Thanks, Matt.
I love these spineless and painfully stupid weasels who send you this after blocking you:

Pathetic.
The above goes double for you.
Patrick Powers blocked me. So brave! What a man!
It is the progressive way. Essential to shut down any and all opposing voices.
query to Google AI: did the US use depleted uranium ammunition in Iraq?
answer: Yes, the US military used depleted uranium (DU) ammunition extensively in Iraq during two major conflicts: the 1991 Gulf War and the 2003 Iraq War
query: health effect of depleted uranium used in Iraq by US
answer: Local medical reports from cities like Fallujah and Basra have documented "extraordinary" surges in health crises since 2003:
Most of your problems would end over night if you tore up your membership card in the Sisterhood of Eternal Victimhood.
Trust me on this. Being told daily that all males are your enemy and that you are oppressed by them is debilitating.
The leaders of Iran are to blame for their troubles, plain and simple.
