I wish the voices recommending against NATO expansion had prevailed. Am I 100% sure Putin wouldn't have invaded anyway? No. But when a country explains the actions it would find threatening to its interests, I'd vote for listening, especially when it's very easy to see that similar regional security concerns resulted in our Monroe Doctrine.
