Putin's "folly" is due to an existential threat on Russian borders, the latter made possible by US duplicity. The new POTUS should also have announced that the US will abide by treaties etc as well as promises made to other states. It would take a while to create (not restore) trust, of course.

You're forgetting our Revolutionary War. General Washington recruited an army of regular folks armed with muskets that most were pretty proficient with since they used them on their farms. This inspired our Second Amendment. No point getting caught unarmed.

Those of us who actually follow US foreign policy and care about people who don't look exactly like us would massively approve of these pronouncements. Sadly, I fear that only makes up about 10-15% of the American public. The rest would be focused completely on "domestic" issues, most of which have been pushed as a smokescreen to distract from our horrible behavior internationally.
That being said, Medicare for All should be a first priority, as should redoubling our efforts to address global climate change. But taking down the CIA & the MIC would go a long way toward freeing up the resources needed for those other two.
