What stratospheric heights of absurdity this society has reached. Who are we when adherence to policy procedure overrides reality? At some point there must be a mutual shout to stop, the machine be damned! before it’s the other way round.

Not only that, but Dr. Bivens also subtly worked in a quote from Monty Python’s Holy Grail. Sublime. The bureaucracy has gotten so ridiculous, it reminds me of something from Catch-22. Thanks for sharing more insight into your world, Matt!

You’re a good man Dr. Bivens. You did no harm and treated her with dignity and respect. You also empathized with the EMTs and your staff, as you guided them and the situation to an honorable solution. Rest in peace, indeed.

Wow- I appreciate your awareness, calm behavior and ability to deal with this evenly. You would have made a great fighter pilot or test pilot. Praise be to you and well done. May the patient RIP.

Had no idea about these procedures. Glad you all gave her a peaceful, dignified departure.

Forgot the paperwork! Add it, please. Can’t have effective bureaucracy with the paperwork that goes with it. Your choice of paperwork, though. Like TP?

I so much enjoyed reading this story. You are a fun, entertaining writer.

It also made me wonder if I should re evaluate what I have in my living will. I do not think it is DNR exactly.. I just do not want to be kept alive for extended amount of time on machines, especially if am brain dead essentially. Never something like the horrible Terri Shivo case that went on for years . But certainly if my breathing or heart stops, give it a go to bring me around . Mmmmm.
